THAMES GOLD-FIND

PROSPECTORS REWARDED MILD “RUSH” FOLLOWS [per press association.] THAMES, October 15. Reports from Coromandel show that Sam Chapman and son discovered, a new leader, containing valuable ore, yesterday. A 661 b. specimen stone was lodged in the Bank of New Zealand.

Sam junior holds a miner’s right over 15 acres between the Pukewhau claim and the old battery site on the slopes of Tiki Rrange. Both had been prospecting for some time, and about a week ago discovered the leader, and drove on it for ten feet, when they discovered indications of rich ore.

When the news spread, there was a mild rush to the scene. Several claims were pegged out adjoining the Chapman’s.

The ground in the vicinity had been worked in earlier days, when much gold was taken out. The manager of the bank said that the ore deposited appeared to be very rich in gold.
