HART DROPPED FROM N.Z. TEAM. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 13. Fine weather prevails for the big football fixtures. Crowds are already in the city for the Ranfurly Shield Rugby match between Canterbury and South Canterbury, and the League Test, between England and New Zealand. The Rugby teams are as previously announced. P. A. Hart, West Coast, has been omitted from the New Zealand League team. The English team is:— Backs: Sullivan, Ellaby, Atkinson, Risman, Smith, Evans, Brogden. Forwards: Thompson, White, Silcock, Hodgson, Fildes, Horton. GREY EXCURSION TRAIN.

, Hauled by two large engines, the special train which left Greymouth early this morning, comprised eighteen carriages and a guard’s van. When it reached Otira, its passengers numbered 853, making it one of the largest trains that has ever travelled the line. The excursionists did not have an uninterrupted run. At Stillwater, the first delay was caused through failure to. uncouple the steam hose, when arrangements were being made to connect up the Reefton contingent. A second interruption to smooth travelling was met when the train was ascending the incline at Jacksons. The emergency brake was applied by one of the passengers, without reason, and the train brought to a standstill. It had then to run back, and gather speed before again tackling the incline, and as a result of these delays it reached Otira, an hour behind schedule time. The train passed through the Otira tunnel without delay, a steam engine assisting the electric locomotives along the grade. Part of the lost time was made up on the run from Arthur’s Pass to Christchurch, and the excursion arrived, at 12.45 p.m. being 65 minutes behind schedule. . TO-MORROW’S MATCHES.
