At a meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture Mr G. S. Nicol was appointed secretary of the Institute, in succession to the late Mr A. R. Stone. —Press Assn.

The Public Service Commissioner (Mr Verschaffelt) announced, yesterday, that the position of Deputy Superintendent of State Advances had been assumed by Mr G. E. Miller, formerly District Public Trustee, Wellington, while the position of Public Trustee, Wellington, had been filled by the appointment of Mr A. R. Coad, Chief Inspector to the Public Trust Office-Press Assn.

Mr. L- G. Cooper, machinist at the Grey River Argus, was met by members of the staff yesterday afternoon, and presented with a seagrass chair, to mark the occasion of his recent marriage. The manager, Mr. N.. V. Lovell, in making the presentation referred to Mr. Cooper’s popularity among the staff, and tendered him and Mrs. Cooper, best, wishes from the staff, for their future happiness. Messrs M.. Daly, L. G. Mercer, M. B. Charteris, and J. A. Mclnroe, also offered their congratulations, to which Mr. Cooper suitably replied.
