ALL NATIONS FAIR
FIRST DAY’S SUCCESS. The All Nations Fair, winch, during the pas six weeks, lias been conducted to provide funds for the relief of Greymouth unemployed, is being finalised in the Town Hall with a monster fair, which commenced yesterday, and which will conclude to-night. The three committees have arranged stalls in the Hall, and there they have assembled all kinds of saleable goods—vegetables, cakes, books, fancy-work, clothing, etc. The large attendance yesterday afternoon. and evening patronised these stalls freely, and the numerous side-shows conducted by enthusiastic showmen, also came in for their share of attention. If the various stalls and side-sjiows do as good a ‘‘business” this afternoon and evening, as they did last evening, it is safe to predict that the Mayor’s Unemployment Fund will be considerably swelled as the result of this final effort. The Civic Band last evening enlivened proceedings with a programme, and will again be present this afternoon and tonight.. Altogether the Fair is a great success, and reflects credit on the committees of the three Queens, and the central executive. The various stall holders and side-show assistants are as follow:—
Business Queen (Miss Jewel Beck): Mesdames Lima, Beck, Harker, Kirkwood, and Miss White; Messrs Neville, Beck, Davies, Hodge, P. J. McLean, A. H. Patterson, L. W. Sullivan and A. Rubbo.
Schools’ and Hospital Queen (Miss Maida Topliss): Mesdames Olsen, Chalk, Kroening, Reeves, Brown, Topliss, Aldred, Misses Neubauer, Brown, and Anderson; Rev. Brother Fergus, Messrs. Kehoe, McLaren and Barrowman.
Sports’ Queen (Miss Maureen Behan) : Mesdames Mercer, H. Herring, W. Phillips, Fletcher, J. S. Robertson, Lealbiy, Beban, Donovan, Misses Quinn, Ryall and Greenhill; Messrs. A. A. Adams, S. McKay, A. Jamieson, M. Jamieson and R. Williams.
Tea Rooms: Mesdames Lindop, Robertson, J. O’Brien, Congreve, Sharp and Davies; Misses Lindop, Dodds, Daly, Power and Hughes. The Fail’ was officially opened yesterday afternoon by the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Greenslade, who referred to the fine work accomplished during the past six weeks by the committees of the queens, and he expressed the hope
that their efforts would result in a sufficient sum being raised to tides the unemployed over the Christmas. He exhorted all to do what they could for the object, and to give what they could towards the relief of those less fortunate than themselves. SPORTS QUEEN LEADING After having held pride of position for some weeks, the Business Queen’s colours were lowered this morning, qnd she was displaced by the other two Queens. The Sports Queen now leads, with the Hospital and Schools’ Queen a close second. Reports of .last night’s business are good, and when the Fair is brought to a conclusion at 10.30 o’clock tonight, the results of the various committees’ endeavours will be announced. To Mr. C. H. Rose, who has carried out the duties of Secretary, in an honorary capacity, special thanks are deserving. Since accepting office, Mr. Rose has carried through the work in thorough /manner, and much of the syqcess of the Fair, has been due to his efforts.
