UNEMPLOYMENT
REGISTRATIONS INCREASED

WELLINGTON, August 11. An increase of 514 in the number
of the registered unemployed throughout New Zealand as recorded in the figures for the week ended August 8. according to a return supply by the Acting-Minister of Employment. The total on the books of the Labour Bureaux' had increased to 56,351, as compared with 55,837 one week earlier. Of this number, 47,841 were on rationed work under the No. 5
Scheme, while 720 were otherwise i placed, this leaving 8510 unplaced or standing down, compared with 10,322 in the previous week. The actual decrease in the number of unplaced men has fallen almost, consistently during recent weeks. The total unplaced last week had declined by 7116, compared with the week ended July 18 last, and by 4662 as against the week ended June 27 last. ‘,
