LATE MESSAGES

AUCKLAND, June 27. It is reported that an Englishman named W: C. Valentine, 34, who came from Gisborne recently, and purchased a twenty-tw’o-foot Mullet boat, sailed yesterday, for England, via Raratonga, Tahiti and Panama.

WELLINGTON, June 27. Representatives of branches of the New Zealand Dental Association, have been in conference in Wellington, during the past three days. The following officers were elected: President, D. V. Donald (Christchurch); VicePresident and President Elect, K. C. Morpeth (Wellington); Chairman of Executive Council, M. Paulin (Wellington); Secretary, M. E. Denniston (Wellington). Mr. J. Norman Wishworth Director of Dental Services, was elected as honorary life member. It was decided that the next conference be held at Dunedin.

AUCKLAND, June 27. “Just as in an equally grave crisis following the Napoleonic wars, it™ Britain’s leadership which brought the world out of the troubles and into the era of unprecedented prosperity, so I believe the British Empire, beginning with the results of the Ottawa Conference, is once again going to lead the nations to a new era of great prosperity,” said Mr S. M. Bruce, leader of Australia’s Ottawa delegation, on arrival to-day. He said that the fundamental spirit of the conference must be the desire of each country to assist each other back to prosperity. It can-, not be a bargaining conference. He added: “If it is approached in that line it would lead to complete failure. One has the example before him of the whole world ever since the war, trying to do that. Each country has been playing its own hand, and been thoroughly selfish, until the world has been brought into chaos. I hope and so do others, that the conference will give the world something in the nature of a lead that we can face the pressing problems in the spirit of self-help and-co-operation, and that we can get somewhere.”

The Australian and New Zealand delegations leave by the Aorangi tomorrow morning. This morning Mr Bruce and Mr Gullett paid an informal call on Mr Coates and Mr Stewart. This afternoon the Australian party went on a motor trip around the city, and this evening Ministerial menjbers of both delegations dine at Government House. Mr Coates received a presentation from Reform supporters at noon.
