RUNANGA NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] On the occasion of his retirement, as Manager of the Co-operative Society, at Runanga, after 14 years’ service, Mr T. Storie was tendered a social and dance at the Miners’ Hall, last evening, by members of the Society. The Mayor, Mr R. McTaggart, in presenting Mr Storie with a wallet oi notes from members, referred to the splendid service given by the guest of the evening, his ability as a business man, and the regret of the Society in losing his services. Mr G. Miller, President, also presented Mr Storie with a wallet of notes, on behalf of the Society, while Mr T. Bowes, on behalf of the staff, made a presentation of a bronze fire screen, and a gold-mounted fountain pen, also a silver' cakestand from a “Wellwisher.”
Mrs Reynolds, on behalf of the Cooperative Ladies’' Guild, presented Mr Storie with a smokers’ stand, with a pipe in case, and a vase. Mr Storie suitably replied to the eulogistic reference made about him, by those making the presentations. A euchre tournament, and a ’dance assisted towards an enjoyable evening, the Lucky Spot dance being won by Miss Samways, and Mr North, and the Monte Carlo, by Mrs McLean, and Mr Crowe. An excellent supper was provided by the Ladies’ Guild.
