HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL . . [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, June 11. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. E. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff, A. R. Elcock, E. Teichelma.nn, A. C. Armstrong, Jas. King, G. Heinz, D. P. Stuart. A special meeting was first held to confirm a resolution regarding the sale of a reserve at corner of Park and Brittan Street. ’> N.Z. Refrigerating Coy., Christchurch, wrote that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the month of April, 1932:—3 sheep, 8 lambs. The Under-Secretary, Department of Justice, wrote intimating that a reduction in the sum of £4O per. annum contributed towards the salary of the Clerk of the Westland Licensing Committee coulld not be arranged, as the

Department' were entitled to a pound per license, and they are at present receiving less than 9/- per license. Mr W. R. Gooch, Park Street, wrote asking (a) for a domestic water supply to Section 1277, Park Street, near Davie Street. —Granted, (b) That a street light be placed at the corner of Davie and Park Streets. —Request cannot be acceded to.

The Sisters of Mercy, Hokitika, wrote asking that the Council repair the fences of Municipal Reserve, 474, Sewell Street.—The Overseer to repair fence by unemployed labour. Secretary,' Hokitika Harbour Board wrote asking that the charge made by the Council for collecting Harbouirates be reduced from £52 per annum to £26 per annum.—To be reduced to 5 per cent, and the Board’s proportion of printing... J. M. Gardiner, asked that 'road access be provided to Sections 1331 and 1332, Hampden Street, adjoining the Racecourse. —Work to be done by unemployed labour. Canterbury Education Board, asked that Council make a special reduction in the charge for water supply to the school. Council regrets cannot reduce rate as it was already very low. Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, forwarded warrant-appointing the Borough Inspector, Mr W. B. Gaylor,

as an Inspector under the Transport Licensing Act, except in regard to Sections 39 and 41 of that Act, and also outlining the Inspector’s duties. Wm. Wilson, forwarded applications to transfer lease of Pt. Municipal

Reserve 492, (Whitcombe Square), from E. E. Orr to L. H. Evans. — Granted conditionally. Secretary, Westland Hospital Board, intimating that pursuant to Section 49 of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1926, the levy payable by the Hokitika Borough Council for year ending March 31, 1933, is £766 16/4, payable in 9 monthly payments, viz. last day of May, June, July, August,' September, October, November, December, 1932, and January, 1933.

The Overseer reported an average depth of 7ft. of water in the reservoir for the month.

The Abattoirs Manager reported: Stock slaughtered for the month: 10 cows, 17 heifers, 73 bullocks, 303 sheep, 101 iambs, 23 pigs, 13 calves; condemned: 1 sheep; fees received £73 15/-, fees for same period last year £76 13/6. It was resolved that the deep open drain in South Rolleston be piped and that the work bo proceeded with at once; that the large pinus insignus trees near the gas holder be topped •and that the Reserves Committee procure ornamental shrubs for planting where ‘the trees have been taken out on Cass Square. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £357 1/3, payments £674 7/8; debit balance £B9B 6/6. Accounts aggregating £547 7/2 were presented and recommended for payment.
