RURAL CREDITS. WELLINGTON, April 11

At the monthly meeting of the Rural Intermediate Credit Board, it was agreed that power to grant loans, not exceeding a specified amount, Should be vested in the directors of the Associations, subject to confirmation by the committees of District .Boards, provided that the Boards’ usual requirements in regard to margin security are strictly complied with.

The Board also approved of the extension of the powers of the directors of Associations of District Intermediate Credit Boards, to grant readvances of the proceeds of the stock and produce sold, and of the principal repayments received. In view of the success of the recent conference at Hamilton of the Rural Intermediate Credit Association, it was decided that a further conference should be held at Palmerston North in June. BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY. WELLINGTON, April 11. At a largely-attended meeting tonight, over which the Mayor, Mr Hislop presided, it was decided to form a New Zealand branch of the British Music Society, the function of which is to encourage the performance and stimulate appreciation of purely British music. The movement was supported in speeches by the Mayor, Sir Thomas Sidey, Mr Strong (Director of Education), Mr Parker, Mr Temple White, and Miss Valerie Corliss, who explained that it was at the wish of the parent body in England that steps were being taken to establish branches throughout New Zealand.

Sir Harold Beauchamp was elected President. The Vice-Presidents included Sir Michael Myers, Sir Thomas Sidey, the Mayor (Mr Hislop), Dr Bradshaw, Dr Galway, Dr Phillips. Miss Corliss, by virtue of her authority from Home, was appointed honorary organiser. The intention is to establish in other centres branches of the Society which is purely British in spirit, and which, it is hoped, will become Dominion-wide in its influence.
