CYCLISTS OF PROMISE

DUFFY AND THOMPSON Cycling on the West Coast has been brought prominently before other parts of th>e Dominion, this isrear, mainly as a result of the splendid performances registered by the champion, H. Turtill, of Greymouth. While the prowess of Turtill, is recognised as being equal to the best' in the Dominion, as his records show, two other young cyclists in Greymouth, are also worthy of special mention. They are P. Duffy, and A. Thompson.

Duffy and Thompson are the two most promising lads riding on the West Coast to-day. Their records, especially that of Duffy, show a consistency for place-getting, which has seldom been surpassed, in one season. Duffy is eighteen, and Thompson is a year younger. With the exception of Hubert Turtill, there' are no other cyclists riding in races on the West Coast to-day, who train more assiduously than Duffy and Thompson.

In 36 races this season, Duffy has been unplaced only on five occasions, his record being 11 firsts, 14 seconds, and six thirds. Thompson has contested 30 races, for 7 firsts, 7 seconds and 8 third placings. These performances have been established on the track, and in road races. With such cyclists as Turtill, Duffy, and Thompson, the future of cycling on the West Coast, gives promise of establishing itself in the forefront of the sport in New Zealand.
