WELLINGTON, November 14Eric Alexander Forrest, who previously was convicted for theft, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate to-day for the conversion of motor'Cars to h|s own use from outside the Town Hall at Carterton. It was stated that he used them to go to Hutt Valley, where he committed breaking and entering. WAGE-CUT EXEMPTION. DUNEDIN, November 13. At the sitting of the Arbitration Court to-day, an application for exemption from the Court’s general orcTer providing for a ten per cent, cut in their wages were made by the Dunedin Fire Brigade’s Union. The>Kaitangata Coal Miners’ Union made a similar application. The application by the Fire Brigades’ Union was refused. The other decision was reserved. / BAND CONTEST. WELLINGTON, November 12. Eighteen entries have been received for the New Zealand band championships to be held in Wellington, commencing Saturday, February 20. The entries for the A grade comprise the St. Kilda Municipal Band.

Woolston Band, Port Nicholson Silver Band, Wellington Tramways Band, Queen Alexandra’s Band, and Wanganui Garrison Band. ' The B. grade entries are Ashburton Silver, Christchurch Municipal, Carterton Municipal, Dunedin Tramways, Hastings Citizens, Masterton Municipal, Miramar Silver Band, Nelson Garrison, Oamaru Municipal, Wellington R.N.V.R. Band, Stratford Municipal, Taranaki Regiment, and New Plymouth Municipal.
