HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, November 14. The Council met last evening at 7.30. Present: Crs. J. D. Evans (Deputy Mayor in the Chair), E. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff, Jas King, Dr. Teichelmann,' D. P. Stuart, G. Herring, A. C. Armstrong, A. K. Elcock. The Mayor took his seat later. F. TV. Chesterman, Borough Foreman, applied fat 14 days’ annual leave commencing on November- 23.— Granted.

Hokitika Croquet Club applied for a lease of Municipal Reserve No. 569, at the corner of Stafford and Jollie Streets, and offering to pay a rental of £4 per annum, half-yearly in advance, plus rates and taxes. —Granted, on year to year lease. L. P. K. Gooch, applied to surrender existing leases, respecting Lot I of Municipal Reserve 801, -and also Municipal Reserve No. 520, and to be granted in lieu thereof, new leases, for the unexpired balance of the term under Section 5, Sub-section (e) of the Public Bodies Leases Act, 1908, No. 240. —Granted. t T. M. Staines, snr., notified that he desired to relinquish the tenancy of Reserve Nd. 445, Botanic Gardens, from October 13, 1931.—Accepted. J. E. Redder" and J. Stewart wrote asking that the Council construct an open drain on the north side of Park Street, between Davie and Jollie Streets.

M. Andrewes, secretary Seaside Tennis Association, applied for permission to construct an asphalt tennis court on the Hokitika beach at the rear of Mr R. Lynn’s section in Revell Street. —Approved, but no title can be granted. Secretary, Hokitika Harbour Board wrote intimating that it is urgently desirable to convert the river channel to the wharf channel before the summer months, in order to provide berthage for shipping and to scour .the outflow of the town sewers, and further, that it is intended to provide labour under No. 5 Scheme, and asking for .Council's cooperation in providing a member of the Borough staff to act as overseer.- Granted, Mr Cutbush to supervise.

The Clerk, Westland County Council wrote intimating that in regard to the executive appointed ’at the Unemployment Conference held at Hokitika on October 30 last, that this Council is entitled to appoint two members, and asking for the names of the appointees.—The Mayor and Chairman of P.W. Committee appointed.

The Sexton, Hokitika Cemetery, applied for permission to attend to graves in his own time and collect fees.—No action taken.

N.Z. Refrigerating Co., wrote adjvising that 137 sheep and one pig had been delivered into Hokitika during the months of August and September, 1931.—Received.

Runanga Borough Council, wrote asking for the support of local authorities under No. 12 Highways District in regard to the proposal for No’. 12 Highways Council for the sole use of the traffic inspector.

Several residents near Davie Street .wrote asking that Davie Street be constructed between Stafford and Weld Streets. —Held over.

J. Key wrote applying for lease of section in Park Street. —Granted. The Treasurer reported receipts £392 16/8; payments £998 19/10; credit balance £lOl 3/9. Accounts amounting to the sum of £6BB 12/11 were passed for payment. The foreman’s report dealt with work carried out during the month. The water in the reservoir averaged 8 feet Bin. for.the month.

Cr. King reported that the Superintendent of the Fire Brigade and the Fire Board were opposed to removing the auxiliary wells. It was, decided to have them repaired and tarred.
