BOXING
MORGAN DEFEATS FAIRHALL. [FEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, November 8. A fifteen round boxing contest on Saturday night between Ted Morgan (10.8 J and T. Fairhall (10.31) went the full distance, the former getting the decision on points, although a section of the crowd voiced their disapproval of Referee Kilmartin's award. The bout was not very interesting, being marked by too much ■wrestling on the ropes and clinching. Morgan frequently forced Fairhall to the ropes, where he -would lean on top of him. On the other hand, Fairhall, after repeated offences was warned by the referee for holding. I airhall has gone back since he achieved a sensational victory over Eugene Volaire at Dunedin some years ago, and disappointment was also expressed at the fact that Morgan has not made that progress in the art of boxing which had been expected as the result ot his increased experience. In a preliminary, H. Davis ot Otago, knocked out F. Prendergast of Southland (holder of the middleweight championship of New Zealand), in the fourth round.
