HOAX ALLEGED
MAN ATTACKED BY BOYS. MELBOURNE, October 27. Believing that they had been hoaxed into applying for work which was not available, more than 100 boys who answered an advertisement this morning inflicted summary punishment upon a man at St. Kilda. Several blows were struck, and the boys then closed refund the man and seized him. In a struggle, both his shoes were dropped and stolen, and about 10/- which fell from his pockets, was appropriated. A cinematograph camera which he carried was also dropped. After a short struggle the man was overpowered and “frog-marched” across the Esplanade to the beach, where he was thrown into about two feet of water. When he was allowed to come out of the sea‘the man’s camera was restored to him and he returned to the hotel where, after having a bath, he was supplied with a pair of shoes by tho “manager of the hotel (Mr. Woodford) and he departed for the city.
