DETERMINED SUICIDE

LETTER LEFT FOR MAILMAN. [PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON, October 29. A mailman, on arriving at Longbush to-day, found a letter addressed to him, which stated the writer was going to make a heap of some logs in a paddock, saturate them with kerosene, set fire to them, and shoot himself on the top. The recipient went to the spot indicated, and he found the charred remains of a man’s body. The deceased was Richard Monteroy Harcourt, a gardener, aged about 65 years. As far as is known, he was single, without relatives. He was employed by Peter McLaren, who left in the morning when deceased was in his usual good spirits and state of health.
