Mr. and Mrs. B. Wearn arrived last evening from Auckland.

Miss P. McCarthy left this morning on a visit to Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs R. Webber were passengers for Rangiora to-day.

Mr T. Beirne left to-day on a visit to Christchurch.

Mr F. Rivers, who has been visiting Greymouth, returned to-day to Christchurch.

Mr F. J. Eggleton, Cobden, left this morning on a holiday visit to Orepuki, Southland.

Miss D. Thomas, who has been on a holiday visit to Mr and Mrs W. Roxburgh, returned to Dunedin to-day.

Mr E. A. Ca.lton, of the Stores Branch of the Railway Department, at Greymouth, left to-day, accompanied by Mrs Calton, for Dunedin, where he has been transferred.

Mr W. Guy, who has been visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Guy, High Street, returned to Christchurch this morning.

Mrs T. B. Boulton, and Miss Mavis Boulton, who have been on a holiday visit to Mr and Mrs C. E. Baxter, Blackmore Street, returned to-day to Christchurch.

Mr Frederick Sinclaire. M.A., lecturer in English at the University of Western Australia, has been appointed to the Chair of English at Canterbury College in succession to Professor Arnold Wall, who has retired.

The Meat Producers’ Board has received the resignation of the Hon. D. Jones from the chairmanship, and appointed Mr. Thomas A. Duncan, of Hunterville, as his successor.—Press Assn.

The death took place yesterday of Mrs Mcßride, wife of Mr T. Mcßride, of Matainui. Deceased, who had been in ill-health for several months, was a native of Okuru, and a member of the McPherson family of that district. She was 39 years of age, and leaves her husband and nine children.

The death is announced from Adelaide of Mr Patrick Glynn, K.C. He was associated with the early history of the federation of the Commonwealth, and was a former Minister of Home and External Affairs. A brilliant scholar and lecturer in topical and classical subjects, he was> for many years a prominent figure in the Federal political sphere, and the public life of South Australia. His age was 76.

The death took place at the Grey mouth Hospital this morning of Mrs Edith Mary Hornby, aged 59 years. The deceased, who was a native of Kanieri, was predeceased by her husband 14 years ago. She is survived by two sons, Richard and William of Ru Ru, and three daughters, Mrs G. Connors, and Misses Hornby (2), all of Ru Ru. There are also three stepdaughters, Mrs Mason, Westport, Mrs Teasdale, Wellington, and Mrs Harvey, Nelson. Mr Milner of Kanieri is a brother, and Mrs Kerr, also of Kanieri, a sister.
