The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court commenced this morning, Mr Justice Adams presiding. “It is a matter for congratulation that in these troublesome and difficult times there is such a small calendar before us,” said his Honor, addressing the Grand Jury- “There are eight cases only, and none of them presents features of difficulty.” Arthur Edwin Hall pleaded guilty to a charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between twelve and sixteen years of age He was remanded till Friday for sentence. Edward John Darkle pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent assault upon a male. The jury, after twenty minutes’ retirement, returned a verdict of guilty. Darkle was remanded till Friday for sentence. EX-POSTAL CLERKS ACCUSED. CHRISTCHURCH, October 28. In the Supreme Court, before Judge Kennedy, the trial is proceeding of James Thomas Toomej r and Murdoch Kenneth Campbell, who are jointly charged that, between May 1 and June, while clerks in the Post and Telegraph Department, they stole various sums amounting to £228, the property of the Government. Both pleaded not guilty. The Crown Prosecutor said that accused worked in the telephone section, where toll accounts were paid. Toomey had been a teller. The trial is proceeding.
