BRITAIN'S INDUSTRIES

A WELCOME REVIVAL. [BY CABLE —PBEBB ABBN. —COPYBIGHT.] LONDON, October 27. Another indication of returning confidence is the news that Lancashire spinning mills have sufficient orders to put mills on full time. While the initial stimulus is from the suspension of the gold standard, the position is aided considerably by the Manchurian trouble. At the beginning of the. month the mills worked fifty per cent, of their normal capacity, and now work seventy-three per cent. The.order books are better than for years past. A decrease, estimated at 30,000 is anticipated in this week’s unenjployment figures. The last two weekly returns have shown decreases respectively of 25,000 and 33,000, and it is estimated that these alone are. equivalent to an annual saving to the State of approximately £11,500,000. •< The total' attendance at the Motor Show at Olympia, which ended on Saturday, was slightly less than last year. The motor traders, however, report a more optimistic tone and a more encouraging volume of firm orders. A feature of the show was the popularity of new light six cylinder models at moderate prices. One firm manufaefuring this type of car had during the course of the Show to revise its production plans for the winter to give an eighty per cent, increase in output; while another booked a greater number of definite or ders for export than the total of last year’s overseas sales. Orders from the Dominions and all parts of Europe have taken the lead in brisker business experienced by the exhibitors.
