BOGEY MATCH RESULT. A bogey match was played by members of the Greymouth Golf Club on the Omoto Links on Saturday and resulted as follows: A Grade: Meldrum 1 up, McCarthy, Shallcrass, Matheson and Curran all square, Hill 1 down, Coltman and Graham 2 down. B, Grade, Casey 1 up, Bell 1 down, Hill and McCallum 3 down, McKane 4 down. HOLE-IN-ONE. A B. Grade player, A. Bell qualified on Saturday for the select membership of the hole-in-one club, by holing his tee shot at the second hole. The initiation will take place next Saturday. LADIES’ JUNIOR MEDAL. The results of the Ladies’ Junior Medal match played on Saturday were: Miss Henderson 93—18—75; Mrs Kane 84—8 —76; Mrs Fleming 95—18 —77; Miss Kilgour 85 —7—78. A long-standing custom among golfers exacts a penalty from the culprit who performs the unusual feat of “holing in one”- at one of the short holes on the links. It is usual for all members to gather at the “19th hole” and drink the health of the lucky (?) individual. It is stated that a Wanganui golfer who recently performed the feat has intimated his intention of breaking away from the precedent and presenting a trophy for competition instead (reports the “Chronicle”). Golfers generally applaud the decision, and thus it may be that the honour of establishing a more sensible custom will fall to Wanganui.
