NEGLIGENT DRIVING. [PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. On, Easter Saturday, David Bell, farmer, while driving a car on the Main Road, near Geraldine, collided with a cyclist, Vera Good eve, aged 16, who died from the injuries she received. Bell was tried at the Supreme Court, Timaru, before Mr. Justice Adams, -oil’ a charge of negligent driving, causing the death of the girl. On that occasion the jury failed to agree. Bell was tried at Christchurch to-day. The evidence' was that Bell was travelling 30 miles an hour on the wrong side of the road, and tlje girl was riding on her correct side, but without a light. One witness stated that Bell was steering an erratic course. The evidence of witnesses who saw Bell was that he smelt of liquor, but was not drunk. The prisoner said he had had only three drinks and was sober. The jury found the prisoner guilty of negligent driving.: He was remanded for sentence.
