LONDON, April 24. While Pilot-Officer Baxter was car. tying out R.A.F. wireless tests 5000 ft above South London a bird emerged from the clouds and struck the propeller of his machine. Part of the propeller-broke off, causing a violent wobble. Baxter stopped the engine, and then was horrified to find himself over the densest part of Rotherhithe. He picked out a tiny Southwark playground, the only clear space for miles, and came down uninjured. The ’plane Was wrecked.
