“SHIP THAT WALKS”
PECULIAR AMERICAN DREDGE. LONDON, April 23. Known as the “ship that walks,” the dredge Cyclops, which was built on the Tyhe, has left for Lg Havre. It is one of the most remarkable craft ever constructed. The design and the machinery all came from America, and it is the first vessel of its kind built in England. It has no propelling riidchinery, but the extraordinary plant enables the ship to raise herself several feet in the water by four 70-feet legs, which can be operated rapidly and which jab into the river or sea bed J The dipper can tear into solid rock and scoop 10 tons of material with each dip. The five steam engines aboard can be worked from the bridge. The Cyclops will dredge Le Havre Harbour.
