BROADFOOT DEFEATS THOMPSON
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, May 7. Jim Broadfoot (Auckland) to-night, knocked out Cyril Thompson (Hastings) in the ninth round of a scheduled fifteen rounds contest for the lightheavyweight title, relinquished by Artie Hay. Thompson had Broadfoot very shaky in the seventh and eighth rounds, but could not land a telling blow. Broadfoot came but much refreshed in the ninth, to connect with a right chop to the jaw, Thompson taking the count. GREYMOUTH TOURNAMENT. An excellent array of entries has been received for the amateur and novice boxing tournament which is being held at the Town Hall on Saturday night, urider the control of the Greymouth Boxing Association, land many conjtests should result. Amateur boxing has reached a standard in Greymouth and patrons attending on Saturday' night are assured of an exciting entertainment.
