MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

POLLING AT GREYMOUTH. So far as the weather was concerned, conditions were ideal for the muni- »- cipal elections, held at Greymouth today. A staff of 14 deputies and 14 poll clerks were located at the four booths in the borough, ready to enable voters to register their wishes at the ballotboxes, and an extra 28 poll clerks will be on duty'this evening, for tallying purposes. The Town Clerk' (Mr F. H. Denton) is acting as Returning Officer, and will announce results this evening as soon as they are available .after seven o’clock. He expects that the final figures will be available about ten o’clock. The booths opened at 9 a.m., but there was no rush! of voters, and polling was slow throughout the morning. With the half-holiday this afternoon, voters came along in greater numbers, but a heavy poll is not expected, there being an absence of general interest in the elections.
