ESTIMATES REDUCED [PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May- 5. In accordance with the requirement of the Health, Department, the Wellington Hospital Board, to-day amended its estimates, reducing the amount from £144,623 tC £129,789. This means a saving to local bodies of £5,933. For the purpose of the ten per cent, “cut,” the original assessment of the value of the “living in” accommodation of house surgeons at the Wellington hospital is to stand. This was decided by the Board today. Other questions involving the conditions of work and quality of fdod were referred to the incoming Board to investigate. ; In a letter to the secretary, the House Surgeons expressed regret that the members of the Board took the view that an attempt had been made to bludgeon them. This referred to! an advertisement inserted/ by the burgeons seeking posts elsewhere, or locum tenens, and a letter of protest against the salary reductiohs and living conditions.
