HOKITIKA NOTES

[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, May 6. Sawmills generally have been idle for five months. A day or two intermittently is worked. Managers of two . of the largest mills are away endeavouring to obtain orders in the large centres. This morning the whistle blew of the Kanieri-Hokitika sawmill. Quantifies of white pine are being brought to the skids in Hokitika, where it is being filletted in anticipation of orders. Mrs H. Nelson Wright (Christchurch) and her daughter Nancy are visitors- to Hokitika. Mr Wm. Jones (Koiterangi) is ill in the Greymouth Hospital. At the annual meeting of All Saints’ Church parishioners on Monday, Rev. H. J. W. Knights presided. The church officers elected were: Vicar’s Warden, Mr J. B. Ward; People’s Warden, Mr W. E. Richards; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr T. R. Saywell; Auditor, Mr H. L. Michel; Vestry: Messrs F. Chesterman, Hansford, Campbell, Palmer, Peake, Rowe, Thomas, Thorn, Sweney, L. S. Ross and Mackay. The accounts disclosed the year opened with a debit balance of £122, and at the close of the year this had increased to £l7B. The new building fund stood in credit at £4,747. There was approximately £275 owing on the All Saints’ Hall, and proposals to meet this were adopted. To assist in reducing the debt on the church fund it was decided the vestry make a special appeal for donations to parishioners. White Michaelmas daisies, astel’s and greenery decorated the All Saints’ Church when Edna May, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Spence, was married to Stephen George, elder son of Mr S. and the late Mrs Havill (Koiterangi). The Rev. Mr Knight performed the ceremony, and Miss Davies presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was attired in a frock of white satin, made with a tight fitting bodice and full ankle-length skirt. Her daintily embroidered veil was held in position by a coronet of orange blossom buds (lent by a friend of the bride). A bouquet of white chrysanthemums, also white shoes and hose completed a charming toilet. The bride was attended by her sister, Ivy (chief) and Miess Winnie Havill (sister of the bridegroom). The bridesmaids were attired in dainty frocks of blue satin made with tight-fitting bodices and shoulder capes, the skirts being full and ankle length. Both -wore blue summer felt hats and carried bouquets to tone, and Silver shoes and stockings completed this toilet. Mr J. Havill was best man. The newlymarried couple left by train for the North, where the honeymoon is to be spent, the bride travelling in a navy blue costume under a smart nigger, brown velour coat trimmed with fur and hat to match.
