The South Island pigeon shooting championship was won on the Rangiora Gun Club’s grounds on Saturday by E. Lansdell, of Lumsden. W. G. Gerard, of Hororata, was runner-up. There were 24 entries and the birds were shot on a 35 yards rise. Lansdell secured, the Gun Club’s medal. The prize money of £2B/16/- was divided between Lansdell, Gerard, M. Andersen, P. Truscott and A. Anderson.

HOCKEY. • On Wednesday afternoon the Mawhera Hockey Club are holding a seven-a-side tournament at Victoria Park, for the Scalmer Cup. The Mawhera team have already won this trophy on two occasions and a third victory will put the cup in their permanent keeping. Strong opposition is expected as nominations are expected from Runanga, Brunner, Stars, Blackball, Kokatahi' and Waiuta. The first match takes places at 2 o’clock.
