Mr J. Thornton was a passenger to Greymouth on Saturday’s express. Mr and Mrs A. Ledsham, o£ Ashburton, arrived on Saturday on a visit to the Coast.
Lord Beauchamp, who is en route to Australia and New Zealand, arrived at Montreal on Saturday.
A London cablegram stated that Lord Birkenhead passed a quiet night, and his condition yesterday, was slightly better.
Rev. R. H. Fell, M.A., 8.D., will arrive at Greymouth on August 26, and be inducted on August 27, as minister of St. John’s Presbyterian Church.
Mr and Mrs A. Marshall, of Greymouth, and Mrs McVicar, of Totara Flat, returned to Greymouth from Ashburton on Saturday.
Mr S. V. Jennings, of Ngahere, ar rived by Saturday’s express, aftei spending a holiday in the North Island.

Advice was received to-day of the sudden -death, at Stratford, of MiHenry (Harry) Masters, second son of Mr Jonas Masters, for many years a resident of Brunnerton. Deceased was 47 years of age. He paid a visit to the West Coast last February. Hon. R. Masters, M.L.C., is a. brother.
Recent arrivals at the Albion Hotel include:—Messrs C. M. Saunders, A. Allen (Christchurch), J. Stratton, G. Carey (Lyell), G. W. Brady (Brunner), Mr and Mrs E. A. Walls (South Westland), Mr' and Mrs Branscombe (Lyell).
A London cablegram stated that the swimmer, Miss Mercedes Gleitze, had married Patrick Carey, an engineer of Dublin. She immediately goes to the Continent fen route to Constantinople, where she intends to swim the Hellespont.
Mr J. E. Crompton, who has for the past 51 years been secretary to the Golden Bay Co-op. Dairy Co., has accepted a similar position with the Kaupokonui Co-op. Dairy Co., near Hawera. Mr Crompton was appointed from 128 applicants.
The funeral of Mr James Moore took place yesterday at the Karoro Cemetery. A large number of Runanga people attended. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Father D. Moore, assisted by Rev. Fathers Long, • Holohan and Healy, of Greymouth, and Father Lordan, of Kumara. The Marist Brothers also attended. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. Whitehead, F. Cook, W. Fisher, J. Armstrong, ,T. King, F. Wylie, G. Millar, and P. Mossop.
The death occurred on Saturday, at the Hutt of Mr John Lister, a former resident of Granity, Buller. Mr Lister, who was 40 years of age and a native of the Granity district, had resided in Wellington Province for the past twelve years. He leaves a widow and two children, two brothers, Mr Thomas Lister, of Granity, and Mr Robert Lister, of Masterton, and two sisters, Mrs T. King, of Runanga, and Mrs Davis, of Wellington. •
