ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting, and a special general meeting of the Union were held on Saturday, July 26. It was decided that Rule 4 be amended as follows: By deleting the figures 20/- in line 18, Clause A, and inserting the figures 26/- in lieu thereof; also by deleting the figures 10/- in line 22, arfd inserting in lieu thereof 13/-. A motion to revert to the old method of election of the Committee was defeated.

The following resolution was carried by one vote: “That no paid official of this Union, be allowed to own, or to have any interest in, any racehorses, or to have a jockey’s or a trainer’s license.” It was decided to let the matter of a new agreement stand over for the present. The following resolution was carried: “That a strong protest be sent to the Government re the importation of foreign soft woods, pointing out that the new tariff thereon is purely a revenue-producing tariff, and not one that will help the timber industry at ail; and, further, that all foreign soft woods should be excluded from New Zealand for a period of three years at least.” It was decided to hold an annual picnic the same as the last one, arid to co-operate with the employers as on the last occasion, for this purpose. It was decided that this Union was not in favour of paying 9d per member capitation to the L.R.C. The following nominations for offices were received: — President: Mr. B. Topp, elected unopposed. ’ Vice-President: Mr. J. Doyle, elected unopposed. Secretary-Treasurer (one wanted): Mr. S. Gladstone, and Mr. F. L. Turley. Committee: No.' 1 District, comprising Greymouth and South of Greymouth (two wanted): —Messrs J. H. Ferguson, J. Gillardie and G. Harwood. Otira Line District (one wanted): Messrs J. Willis, Jno. Faulkner, and J. Rooney. Reef ton and Buller District (two wanted):—Mr. D. Faris was the only nomination received. Messrs J. C. B. Coulson and J. Flaherty were re-elected Trustees. Miss K. Martin was reappointed as Auditor for the Union. Mr. Rex Fitzgerald was appointed Returning Officer in connection with the election of officers. Messrs J. Flaherty and J. Doylq, were elected Delegates to the Paper Board Committee.
