TIMBER WORKERS’ UNION
EXECUTIVE DECISIONS
The Executive of the Westland Timber Workers’ Union met on July 26. Present: Messrs B. Topp (Chairman), J. Doyle, D. Faris, J. Rooney, J. Willis and L. Gillardie.
The matter of men in good Government positions holding down other well paid jobs was fully discussed, and the Secretary was instructed to place the matter before Mr. Jas. O’Brien, Member for the District, and the Leader of the New Zealand Labour Party, pointing out that this organisation was strongly, opposed to such a principle.
It was decided to pay £1 to the Christchurch Trades Council’s appeal on behalf of the dependents of the late F. R. Cooke.
It was decided that the Secretary give notice to the President or the Vice-President when, he wishes to leave the West Coast on other than Union business; that the Union’s motor car be used on union business only; and that the Secretary be given two weeks holiday on full payat Christmas time.
