The referee is Mr F. E. Sutherland. The British and New Zealand Rugby teams were the guests of the Governor-General at afternoon tea at Government House to-day. At least one man is determined that he will not miss the match to-mor-row, before 10 o’clock to-night, he sat down on a box outside the gates at Athletic Park, and commenced a 161 hour vigil.

There were rumours to-day that bogus tickets for the Test match are in circulation. The Rugby Union officials stated that steps will be taken to prevent persons with such tickets from gaining admission to the ground. The weather remains fine, as it has been for the last two days, with a light northerly and passing clouds.

RUSH TO THE GROUND.

WELLINGTON, August 9.

The day broke drizzling, the weather making the Test prospects look unpromising, but since then, signs of clearing for the afternoon have been abundant, and no rain is falling now. Despite the rain, there were thousands at the ground before nine o’clock. The gates were opened before the advertised time, and by 9.30 the western bank was pretty well half full. From an early hour trams have ben disgorging family parties laden -with miscellaneous objects, from a potato sack to the fashionable grip, from which protrude mackintoshes, oil sheets, oilskins, gaiters umbrellas, pieces of board, and large packages, obviously containing refreshments. Many children cgn;ying their own bundles made up last night, are additional impedimenta with these parties.

EX-ARMY TEAM

WELLINGTON, August 8

Members of the New Zealand Army Rugby team that won the King’s Cup in the inter-service competition, in 1918, and later toured South Africa, held a reunion to-night, the first time since the team was disbanded eleven years ago. C. Brown (New Plymouth) presided, and others present were: —A. E. Bellis. A. Bruce, M. Cain, W. R. Fea, W. Ford, A. Gil’christ, E. W. Hasell, W. L. Henry, J. Kissick, J. Moffatt, D. Sandman, S. J. Standen and A. West.
