Mr T. Buxton left by to-day’s express for Christchurch.

Captain W. Strachan left this morning on a visit to Palmerston North.

Mr C. Neame was a passenger .by v this morning’s express to ChristChurch.

Mr W Roxburgh was a passenger to Christchurch by this morning’s express.

Mr ..and Mrs G. E. Nicholls left by this morning’s express on a holiday visit to Dunedin.

Mr T. F. Savage has been appointed choirmaster and organist to Holy Trinity Church.

Mr J. Kerrigan, chief veterinary Surgeon' for Canterbury and Westland, returned to Christchurch this morning.

Guests at the Albion Hotel include. Mr and Mrs A. King (Auckland), Mr F M L. Sheppard (Christchurch) and Messrs A. E. Thomas and Holmes (Wellington).

The death occurred at New Plymouth on Monday of Captain H. R. Price, at the age of 82 years, He was wharfinger for the Union Steam Ship Company at Westport for about 20 years, having been appointed in 1890.

Mr S. L. Bell, of the Commercial Bank of Australia, has left for Nelson, where he has been transferred. Mr G. M. Buchanan,, of Wellington, has arrived to take over Mr Bell’s former position.

Mr A. W. Hart, postmaster, of Waiuta, has resumed his duties after his annual leave. Mr R. N. Clark, who was relieving postmaster at Waiuta during Mr Hart’s absence, has returned to Reefton.

A London cablegram stated that Mr George Maxwell Richardson, of New Zealand, has been awarded a Beit Fellowship, tenable for two years, at the Imperial Science College. The value of the Fellowship is £250 and is for research into the application of electrometric methods in biological problems.

A Sydney cablegram stated that Mr F. T. Bridges has been appointed by the Board of the Australian Mutual Provident Society to succeed the late L. H. Apperly as general manager. Mr Bridges has had over 50 years’ service with the A.M.P., and was acting-general manager during Mr Apperly’s recent trip to England, after which he was appointed assistant general manager.

Mrs I. Cobourn, residing with her daughter, Mrs Leech, 99 Tainui Street, celebrated £.er 86th birthday to-day. She has four sons 7 and one daughter and 24 grandchildren. Mrs Cobourn has been in New Zealand for 65 years and has resided, in Greymouth 64 years. She is very active, and employs her time reading, knitting and sewing. Yesterday she went to the Town Hall to see the pictures, walking both ways.
