N'.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIP [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, June 16. In the first round of the match play in the New South Wales Amateur Golf Championship, the chief surprise was the defeat of Ivo Whitton, by E. Apperley, one up. Hector Morrison defeated the lasmanian champion, L. Netleford, three up, and two. The latter was right oil his game. Eight remain in the second round, which will be played to-morrow.
OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received .June 17, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 16. The qualifying rounds in the open golf championship were played at Hoylake and Wallasey. The scores at Hoylako include Diegel and Compston seventy, equalling the course record; Cotton, Alliss, J. Taylor. Bobbie Jones, D. Soulby (Irish amateur champion) 73; Jolly, 74, Abe Mitchell 76, Jim Barnes, Kay. and R.. Whitcombe 77, L. McPherson, of Melbourne 90. At Wallasey, A. Twine of London, took 68; Von Elm 71. Tolley 72, Duncan 74, Horton Smith. Don Moe (America) 75.
