LOCKED IN BANK SAFE
APPEAL FOR RESCUERS. i [BY CABLE—PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Received June 17, 11.30 a.m.) WARSAW, June IG. A gang of six entered the Handlowly Bank at Lodz, on Sunday. It is believed that they locked officials in the safe, and it is not likely that they are alive as the safe is unventilated. Frantic efforts to open the safe were unsuccessful. An invitation has been issued to Warsaw and Prague professional safebreakers to rush to Lodz .
CHICAGO POLICE RESIGN.
NEW YORK, June 16. The Chicago Police Commissioner, Russell, and Chief of the Detectives, Stoge, resigned to-day, after public indignation had been aroused by the murder of Lingle (a reporter). Another message states: “The secret six,” business men’s committee investigating gang activities, announced that it would enlarge the scope of its work, increasing the membership to sixteen.
