EXPLOSIVES IN CAR
WOMAN BLOWN TO BITS — A FIJI HORROR [BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYEIGHT.] (Received June 17, 1 p.m.) , SUVA, June 17. A shocking tragedy occurred at the Nasinu £tone crusher last evening.. Mi* Stabben, the Government Mechanical Engineer, witli liis wife, arrived with explosives and stores in a car. Sabben left the car and a minute or two latei’ there was an awful explosion.' Elliott, manager of the stone crusher, was approaching the car. Both he and Sabben were flung to the ground, but escaped serious injury. The ground was covered with tiny pieces of flesh and bone. Mrs Sabben’s mangled head and the upper part of her shoulders were found three chains away over the creek. Some of her clothing was wrapped round the windscreen -some yards away. The -woman’s two feet, cut off at the ankle, were found sixty yards away. The car contained fifty pounds of gelignite, two hundred detonators, and a quantity of benzine.
The cause of the explosion is a mystery.
