HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

HOKITIKA, May 10.

The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: Crs D. J. Evans (Chairman), Dr Tcichelmann, T. W. Duff, A. C. Armstrong, E. W. Heenan. A. R. Elcock, Jas. King. -An apology was received for the a"bsence of the Mayor, who is confined to his home through illness. The wisli was expressed that he would -soon be well again. The District Engineer, Railways, Christchurch, wrote asking the Council to tar seal Weld Street Railway crossing and charge cost to the Railway Department. —Received and referred to P.W. Committee. The Secretary, Westland Hospital Board, forwarded statutory notification that Hospital levy for 1930-31 was struck at a meeting of the Board, and that the Council’s proportion of the levy is £B6O/11/-, payable in nine payments of £95/12/4, commencing on June 1 next, and ending on January 31 1931. The Secretary Hokitika Fire Board forwarded statutory notification under Section 25, of the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, that Hokitika BoTough Council is levied for the sum of £3lO, for the year ending March payable in four payments of £77/10/each on April 1, July 1, October 1, 1930, and January 1, 1931. The Valuer-General wrote intimating that new valuations under Section 50 of the Valuation of Land Act, 1925, had been lodged prior to the 31st March, 1930, in respect to Sections No. 55, 69, and 71, Revell Street. Mrs E. T. Nightingale and two others, applied to have footpath on north side of Park Street, between •Fitzherbert and Sewell Street, put in order, as present footpath is overgrown.—Referred to P.W. Committee with power to act. W. D. Mackay, Hokitika, wrote asking that a drain on the south side of Weld Street between Brittan Street and Sale Street be piped.—Referred to P.W. Committee for report. J. Cuttance wrote applying for a light between Jollie Street and Weld Street.—Granted.

Cr Pleenan suggested that a lamp be installed at the end of Beach Street and Camp Street. Cr Heenan was authorised to interview the Kanieri Electric Ltd., on the matter.

The Foreman reported on work carried out in the Borough and on the pipe line during the month.

The Abattoirs Manager reported: Animals slaughtered during April.— 13 cows, 31 heifers, 57 bullocks, 199 sheep, 126 lambs, 26 pigs, 6 calves; condemned, nil. Fees received £6B 12/6; for same period last year £72 1/6.

The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £l6O/4/7, payments £826/8/4; Dr. £896/18/11. Accounts amounting to £517/19/were passed for payment. The Treasurer read a statement of the approximate receipts and expenditure for the year ended March 31, 1930. U_siT®!l!
