CAR & TRAIN COLLIDE
WOMAN’S FOOT AMPUTATED.
[per press association.]
LEVIN, May 7
In a collision between a car and train at Ohau, last evening, Mrs J. Johnston, of Ellice Street, Wellington, had a foot so badly injured, that amputation was necessary.
The car was driven by her husband, who at the diagonal crossing, mistook the lights of the oncoming train for those of a car. Not hearing a whistle the car ran on to a cattle stop. The occupants were getting out, when Mrs Johnston was struck by some part of the engine. The car was thrown off the cattle stop, but not badly damaged. The injured woman was brought to Levin. Her condition this morning is satisfactory.
