AUCKLAND MEN’S DEMANDS

AUCKLAND, May 7.
Another unemployed demonstration occurred this morning, this time outside the offices of the Charitable Aid Board.
A committee of unemployed entered the offices and informed the officer in charge that they had been informed by Mr. Stallworthy they could legally demand adequate maintenance. They presented specific demands, including 36/- weekly for single men, and 30/- each for a man and his wife. On being told that the demands could’not possibly be met, the committee withdrew, and discussed the situation with those outside. CRISIS AT DUNEDIN DUNEDIN, May 7. A deputation, representing five hundred unemployed and their dependents ; vaited on the Mayor, who wired the Minister of Public Works, urging the immediate opening of works in or near Dunedin, adding “The position is desperate, and will undermine the maniood of the country if not alleviated quickly.”
