CONFERENCE PROGRESS. [by CABLE —PRESS ' ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, March 30. The latest conference between the coal mine v owners and miners, oh which high hopes of an early resumption were built, found the delegates unable to agree after two hours’ consideration. Some progress was made, however, so it is believed, for though Mr J. H. Scullin, the Prime Minister made it plain that financial assistance from the Federal Government was out of . the question, some form of tariff protection against coal imports may be possible, and the Prime Minister promised that the Commonwealth would co-operate in all plans for the stabilisation of the coal industry and also in the finding of employment for the surplus miners. It is believed also, that pits may now reopen without any further conference.
