ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

INCIDENT AT DOBSON. Upon entering the room of James Egan, 23, at Taylorville yesterday morn ing, his landlady found him lying unconscious. She rang up Constable Rodgers, and Egan was taken in the ambulance to the Grey Hospital. The sequel was heard in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when Egan was charged that, on February 13, he attempted to commit suicide Accused pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Senior-Sergeant 0. E. Roach: Pie is a decent young fellow. He has been working at Wallsend amongst some of these rough fellows, and apparently they have been leading him a dance. I think one of them gave him a hiding. H© is of a very sensitive nature, and took this to heart. He jumped into the river, and attempted to do away with himself. However, he did not succeed, and went home to bed. His landlady found him unconscious yesterday morning. He is suffering from shock, but apart from that, he is all right. Mr. W. Meldrum, S.M.: He is fit for work, is he not? —I think so. Perhaps he could have a couple of days’ spell. In reply to the S.M., accused said he had work to go to. He was employed as a trucker at the Wallsend mine. He could pay the ambulance and hospital expenses, amounting to £ll4s, as he had about £8 due to him in wages. The S.M. convicted Egan, and ordered him to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and to pay the expenses.
