FATAL FALL OVER CLIEF. BLENHEIM, December 5. Henry Langley Braddock, aged 53, was accidentally killed to-day at Shakespeare Bay, Picton, by falling over a cliff. INTOXICATED DRIVER; HAMILTON, December 4. Charged with being intoxicated whilst in charge of a motor car, William Edward Morris, a benzine pump fitter, was /fined £lO, and his was cancelled for six months, i defendant drove his care on an erratic course, and went over a bank. LINESMAN ELECTROCUTED DUNEDIN, December 4. An electric linesman, ArthjUr Beaton, single, aged ,40 years, and residing in Dunedin, was engaged with two other workmen this afternoon at Maungatua, near Mosgiel, in putting an extra transmission line on to the main line from Whipori to Dunedin, when lie was electrocuted. The new line was being hauled across the main line, which was carrying 35,000 volts. The deceased’s hand apparently came in contact with the bare wire. CAR OVER BANK. TAUMARUNUI, December 5. A car driven by H. McKenzie, of Wellington, who was accompanied by his wife, skidded at a bad spot of Pirika Hill, when en route to Wanganui yesterday, and went over a steep bank and fell 200 feet. McKenzie is in the hospital with shock and injuries to his head, but is progressing satisfactorily. Mrs McKenzie is suffering from shock, but ■vyas not taken to the hospital. The car was badly damaged. PAREORA RIVER BRIDGE. TIMARU, December 4. A new ferro concrete bridge over the Pareora River, on the main Christchurch —Dunedin highway, was officially opened for traffic to-day in the presence of a large gathering of the public and representatives of the local bodies from Ashburton to Oama.ru. The estimated cost of the bridge, which was constructed by the Public Works Department, was £15,000, but the completed cost is £11,400. Of ’ this amount the Highways Board is finding £7,600. In the absence of the Minister of Public Works, the bridge was opened by Mr. J. Btichener, M.P., for Waitaki.
