WAIUTA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) A party consisting of Mr and Mrs P. H. Jones, Misses Hampton and’ Southgate, of the local school staff, and Messrs Walker and Stephens, mining students, made a trip to Alexander Mine last week-end, on a walking tour. The jpurney out was done in five hours and the home trip in 4i. The track along the race was found to be in good order for walking although heavy rain had fallen. The residents of “Tin Town” at the Alexander gave the unexpected visitors a warm welcome, and soon had a hot meal for them. Messrs W. Hynes, W. Clark, M. Kennedj r and McCarthy, did all they could to make the stay pleasant. On Sunday, a two course dinner was prepared by the hosts, including gooseberry pie. It was very evident that visitors are very welcome at any time in Alexander township. The party was grateful to Messrs White, Robertson and Murley for sleeping accommodation. It is now several years since the last party including ladies, visited Alexander. Rainfall for November was 7.slins. Mr J. Graham, organising teacher, stationed at Reefton, visited Waiuta op Saturday. The three candidates presented for proficiency certificates, Lorna Jones, Doris White and Basil Hempseed, passed the examination. After a fall of snow on the ranges and a frost of several degrees on Monday night, the weather changed to pleasant conditions.
