Frustrated in an attempt to burn a double-storey block ,of flats in Double Bay on Saturday night, two men returned last night and attempted to blow up the flats with a quantity of gelignite. Firemen prevented the Saturday night attempt and extinguished the fire before much damage was done, but. the explosion completely wrecked the kitchen and hall Way and shattered every window. THIEF’S STRANGE VIGIL. .MELBOUBINE, December 2. A thief who robbed the home of John Miller at Footscray acted in a strange manner. He bound the hands of Miller’s wife and two children, and of Miller, who returned home at 10 o’clock at night. He then stood guard over the family with a revolver until six o’clock in the morning.
