STOLEN EXPLOSIVES. WELLINGTON, November 8. Percy Clarke, alias Lamonte, aged 1 26, was sentenced to three months, and Clarence Frederick Hancock was fined £5, in default 21 days, for breaking into a Public Works Department, magazine at the side of the road near Kaitoke and stealing explosives valued at £2/10/-. They . were engaged in splitting firewood m the district at the time of the offence.

FOUND HANGED. CHRISTCHURCH, November 8. Ronald Joseph Heslop, aged 22 years, was found hanging ,in a shed at his father’s farm at Brookside this afternoon. Heslop had left home to do gorse cutting on the farm. He,did not return to lunch, and a search was made, and his father found him. A medical man was summoned, but declared the man had been dead for some hours.

HOSPITAL’S BRANDY. GISBORNE, November 8. Charged with the theft of a gallon of brandy, valued at £3 ss, the property of the Cook Hospital Board, George Lawrence Evans, secretary of the Board, and Andrew Stewart Murray, temporary house steward, appeared before Mr. Harper, S.M., to-day. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. AUCKLAND, November 8. Fatal injuries to the head were received by a motor cyclist, Claude Mold, aged 21, of Manurewa, as the result of a collision which occurred on the Great South Road, Otahuhu, this afternoon. Mold was proceeding south. A motor lorry and a large service bus were travelling in the same direction, these being in front. Mold’s machine collided violently with the front left wheel of the bus, and he was hurled to the ground. He was gravely injured, his skull being fractured. Death occurred in a few minutes. Mold was employed at Westfield Freezing Works. CAMPERS’ ACCOUNT. WELLINGTON, November 8. Mr Page, S.M., to-day dismissed a charge of theft against Frederick George Van Syke, in respect of £2/12/6 he was supposed to pay a tradesman on behalf of a camping party from the Wellington Rowing Club. ' Mr Page said that he did not regard the accused’s conduct as altogether satisfactory, however, as the Club had looked to him to preserve its good name. It was mentioned that on account of previous publicity, accused had_ lost his position at Palmerston North. Counsel stated the account was one in which the accused was personally liable to the tradesman, and the reason he had not paid it was that some members of the party had still to pay him.
