The matter of changing the name from the land to the West Coast Centre had been finalised by the New Zealand C °The balance sheet for the 192 J’ 29 season was presented, and adopted. A credit balance of £l2/11/- was shown Commenting on the balance sheet, the Chairman' remarked that consider ing what the Centre had been up against, the position shown was most satisfactory. It,was pleasing to be able to arrange such visits as that of Miss Stockley and her party last season, and this season of Ryan and Grier. They had tried to get the latter for the race days, but the New Zealand Council could not arrange it. With these visits and with the Championships coming on he thought that it should be a most successful year. The Secretary pointed out that several trophies won last year at carnivals had yet to be claimed. A letter was received from the Wanganui Centre asking support to their application for the Dominion Championships for 1931. . It Was decided to support the application, the Chairman remarking that feeling seemed generally in favour of Wanganui for the next Championships. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Dr W. McKay; President, Mr H. Rattray; Secretary, Mr J. Saunders. Treasurer, Mr F. W. Baillie. Auditor, Mr P. Kane. Handicapper, Mr W. Gieseking. Assistant Handicapper, Mr C. O’Neill. Resident delegate to the New Zealand Centre, Mr McDonald. A letter was received from the newly-formed Cobden Amateur Swimming and Surfing Club asking for affiliation with the Centre, and advising their colours as red and black. It was decided to accept the affiliation and to refer the matter of colours to the N.Z. Centre. Mr W. Gieseking gave notice of motion that at the next general meeting the question of appointing vicepresidents to the Centre be discussed.

ANNUAL REPORT. The following annual report was submitted: — In submitting the annual report for the past year your committee has pleasure in recording a successful year. Although weather conditions were very much against swimming, we have finished up the year with a credit balance of £l2. During the year we had a visit from three of New Zealand’s best lady swimmers, Misses Stockley, Miller and Hood. Although, unfortunately the night of their appearance was wet, there was a very fair attendance of the. public. In addition these three ladies did a considerable amount of coaching of schoolchildren and your committee be- - lieves that a considerable amount of good has resulted from this. Your President attended the annual Conference of Centres at Wellington during the championship meeting and was successful in having a remit passed giving vou the New Zealand Championships for 1930. The ensuing year will thus be the most important in the-history of the Centre to date. Preliminary. arrangements are well in hand. The Borough Council, with your assistance, have undertaken the work of adding to the existing seating accommodation, with necessary shifting of dressing cubicles. This entails an additional expenditure of £l5O which will have to be raised aS soon as possible. Working in conjunction with the Centre there is now a social committee which is doing good ‘work towards providing these funds and your committee wished to record its thanks to those persons who have so willingly come forward to help. Our thanks are also due to the local Press for their assistance and consideration during the year. Without the help which they have given it would have been a very difficult matter to secure public interest as has been done. In conclusion we trust that every member of the incoming committee will do his utmost and render every assistance in his power towards making the coming Champiqnship meeting one of the most successful ever held in New Zealand.

ORDINARY MEETING. Th© annual meeting was then closed, and the ordinary meeting business opened. The Chairman reported. that the Borough Council had been met by representatives of the Centre, and the matters of additional seating and charges discussed. He believed that tenders for the work had been called for, and the erection of the structure would be gone ahead with. A’letter on the same matter was received from the Council, stating that plans had been prepared and tenders called for the work, for which £125 had been voted. The Centre would be asked to find the balance, £l5O. The mattei* of charges to the baths would be gone into as early as pos-. sible.

A letter was received from the Corsair Bay (Christchurch) Social Club, concerning the train ai ; rangements for the Championship week-end, the matter of train arrangements being left in the hands of Messrs Baillie and Walters.

The United Ladies’ Club wrote advising the appointment as delegates to the Centre, of Mrs. Johnston and Misses Miller and Peillon. The Secretary was instructed to advise the Club that it is entitled to two delegates only.

Wellington and South Auckland Centres wrote in reference to officials available for the Championships. The latter stated that none of their officials would be nominated to assist, and Wellington advised that they were unable to nominate officials at such an early date, but forwarded a list of last year’s championship officials. The suggested itineraries of the Australian swimmers, Ryan and Grier, and of Miss Jean Cocks and another lady, were received. Greymouth is included in both itineraries. Mr. Walters reported that he and Mr. Baillie interviewed the Borough Council, the latter acting as the Reserves Committee, and their proposals for swimmers’ charges to the baths had been practicaly all agreed to. The charge for use of the baths for carnivals,

was to be £3 3s, with the provision that a special filling of the baths be 15/- extra. The charge for the four days of the championships would be £2O, with the right of having the baths filled once. . , The Headmaster of the Main School wrote forwarding a list of certificate winners. The Chairman advised that the claim of a Runanga boy for a 220 yards certificate was being dealt with. Mr. Gieseking advised that ten boats would be available for the Annette Kellerman Cup race at Moana. The matter of arranging for boats was referred to a committee set up for that purpose. Messrs. Baillie and Walters were appointed a postei - committee. It was decided to write to the Ross Club and request them to affiliate with the Centre. The visit of Miss Jean Cocks to Greymouth was discussed. The suggested date would coincide with the visit of Ryan and Grier. It was decided to support the proposal to invite the swimmers to New Zealand.
