(Per Press Association.) \ DEATH IN TENT. PAHIATUA, November 8. Herbert Ingamells, a labourer, single, aged. 47, was found, dead in his tent, with his throat cut, on the Makairo farm, where he was employed. Deceased in May, 1927, attempted to commit suicide similarly at Alfredton.

MIGRANT’S THEFT. HAWERA, November 8. John James, an immigrant farm labourer, 21, pleaded guilty before Justices to-day and was committed for sentence on a charge’ of breaking and entering the Awroa Store on the morning of Sunday, October 20, and stealing £3/5/. BLASTING TRAGEDY. CHRISTCHURCH, November 7. Henry Tucker, employed by the Public Works Department on relief work on a. new road, between Gebbie’s Pass and Kennedy’s Bush, was killed to-day as the result of a blasting accident. Shots were being fired about three o’clock, during the afternoon “smoko” when Tucker was struck on the head by a piece of stone, and was killed instantly. A similar accident occurred on the same road on August 17, when another member >of the same gang was killed in almost similar circumstances.

NATIVE PLANTS. AUCKLAND, November 7. At the Auckland Horticultural Society’s Annual Rose Show, Messrs Duncan and Davies, of New Plymouth won the Loder Cup for the best exhibit of native plants. This cup was presented by Mr Gerald Loder, a member of the Royal Horticultural So'ciety of London, who visited New Zealand several years ago. He was so struck by the magnificence of the flora that, upon his return to London, he presented a cup for competition at the Horticultural Show 4 in the main centres of the Dominion. SUBURBAN BUSES. WELLINGTON, November 8. The Transport Appeal Board’s first case in Wellington was a petition by the residents of Vogeltown, a hill suburb, to force the City Council to give them a bus service. Municipal officers stated that the town had eleven bus services now on which £13,000 yearly was lost, and moreover the route was not suitable for buses. In face of this, the Board refused the application pointing out that residents could make themselves a special rating area for the purpose and then apply to the City Council. COPPER-FIELD SURVEY. - WOODVILLE, November 8. At a public meeting held' at Woodville last night, it was announced that the Minister of Mines had offered a subsidy of £5OO towards the cost of securing a geographical survey by German scientists of the Maharahara copper field, in the prospecting of which the sum 0f.£40,000 has already been expended by various companies. The tot'll cost of the geophysical survey is. expected to be about £3500, and the public is being asked to subscribe £3OOO to , the prospecting company.. If the money is forthcoming, a start will be made with the survey early in January.

ROTORUA CHARGES ROTORUA, November 8. John Nahutu Parker Charles-George Graham, on three charges of breaking, entering, and theft, was sentenced by Mr. Paterson, S.M., to twelve months’ hard labour' and three years’ reformative treatment. Prisoner had a long list of previous convictions. Heri Mau charged with three breaches of the Gaming Act, betting on totalisator odds, using premises as a conimon gaming house, and carryingon the business of a bookmaker, pleaded guilty to the first two charges, the third being withdrawn. On the first charge, he was convicted and fined £2O, with costs, and on the second charge was fined £3O with costs. MANAWATU SHOW PALMERSTON NORTH, Nov. 7.
