R. A. F. APPRENTICES.

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON. October 24. The five candidates for aircraft apprenticeships with the Royal Air Force, England, were educationally examined on October 4. Four were (successful —Terence E. Boyle (Stratford), Deryck Milne (Papakura), John S. Standing (Otoko, Gisborne), and Ronald F. Wells (Upper Riccarton, Christchurch). These have still to undergo medical examination, and if passed will be nominated for entry into the R.A.F., and will join up in January next. In these cases it might be well to mention that candidates find their own passage money to England.

WEATHER INFORMATION.

WELLINGTON, October 26.

The Weather Office intends to publish reports for aviation purposes, confined at first to useful information, and eventually expanding to a regular system of routine reports. Arrangements, so far, have . been made for news of the weather conditions around Cook Strait, including stations on both sides, and as far as Kaikoura. Machines not carrying radio, will get notice of adverse conditions by signals from the ground service. Pilot balloons have been used to obtain atmospheric data thousands of feet up. These experiments have gone \on almost daily from both Auckland and Wellington. Later, it is hoped to use military planes for high ascents, carrying special recording instruments.
