COSTLY VICE-REGAL CRUISE
BILL FOR ABOUT £14,000.
In the Australian Senate recently Senator Dunn, New South Wales, asked a question which elicited that the recent cruise of the Governor-General to New Guinea cost the Commonwealth Government approximately £14,000. In answer to another question he was told that the trip made by Lord Forster to the mandated territories when he was Governor-General cost £376. In an interview Senatoi’ Dunn expressed the opinion that the expense of Lord Stonehaven’s trip required some explanation, in view of -the fact that it was made in a time of such financial stringency. Lord Forster had made his trip during a period of plenty, and yet he used an ordinary passenger steamer. The money expended on Lord Stonehaven’s trip could have easily been made available for the relief of distrep- r ; returned soldiers of Aus>ra..w. °
