WANGANUI RESULTS (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, September 27. . A strong southerly wind and a driving rain f oil.the opening of the New Zealand golf championships to-day, imposed severe tests on the players. In the afternoon the rain ceased, but the wind increased, and it was bitterly cold.

Shaw’s performance to-day (two rounds in 151) stamped him as a player capable of taking his place in any company.. He was only one over the standard scratch score.

The conditions were wretched for the second day’s play at the N.Z. Ladies’ Golf Championship. A fierce cold south-easter blew, with frequent rain and hail showers. At times the greens were white with hal. The Coronation medal match was Avon by Miss V. Heming 90 (19) 71; with Mrs McKillop runner-up 93 (19) 74. Miss Kay Avas third 79 (1) 78. This Avas a remarkable round, under the very trying conditions, and she took the prize for the best gross score.
