Costes and Belleconte left Le Bourget in an attempt to make a record non-stop flight in a monoplane of 600 horse power with a capacity of 1200 gallons of petrol. They hope to be aloft for 50 hours, and cover 5,500 hundred miles in the direction of Japan.

THE PRINCE’S PILOT.

Mr Fielden has been appointed personal pilot to the Prince of Wales. He was selected out of eighty members of the Reserve of the Royal Air Force, who were considered for the post. It is understood that the Prince does not propose to take out a pilot’s certificate, and the new Moth machine which he has purchased will be flown by Mr Fielden. However, as the aeroplane is fitted with dual controls, the Prince will sometimes fly it. .

When the Prince uses his service machine, Squadron-Leader Don will, as hitherto, pilot it.

For the past six months, Mi’ Fielden has been employed as personal pilot to Captain Guest, chairman of the National Flying Services Company. They only recently returned from an air trip to Africa. Last March Mr Fielden was awarded an Air Force Cross for distinguished peace time flying.
